Xanthus

Description

Xanthus is a great white stallion with wings that radiates a soft, palpable glow of divinity. This pegasus is actually completely white, from mane to tail. His feathered wings that span twenty feet are as downy-soft as the horse-like beast's hide. Even his hooves and eyes are pure white. He's easily seven feet tall at the shoulder, and his whole body commands a length of almost nine and a half feet. This half-celestial pegasus must weigh over 1,500 pounds. Xanthus stamps and paws and neighs excitedly, eager to spread his wings and soar through the heavens. With the leather saddle and bit and bridle tied about his back and neck and long mouth, it's obvious that he looks forward to bearing some hero high as well. A tiny symbol decorates the reins at both shoulders, the small button illustrating a zephyr wind engraved like a cameo pin. And like a zephyr will Xanthus fly!

History

His mother was a celestial pegasus who flew to Cael and mated with a strong pegasus stallion from the mountains of Artos. She flew back to her homeland of the Ivory Hills in Mithardir, Olympia, and gave birth to Xanthus in 904. Like all pegasi, he matured as quickly as any stud. But unlike most pegasi, even celestial pegasi, Xanthus was gifted with greater astuteness than average. He learned and yearned for more. He soared through Olympia when he was old enough to take wing. When a young bralani tried to tame him, he didn't put up much of a fight. Now this sounded like fun! He bore the eladrin across the planes, into battles and across the fields of paradise. Xanthus swiftly learned how to fight as a warhorse -- or rather, warpegasus. His bralani tamer had to separate from Xanthus sooner than he thought, unfortunately. Wanting to bear more heroes into battle, Xanthus took wing and flew from the outer planes, through the ethereal realm, and found his way into the material plane of Cael. Drawn by instinct perhaps, Xanthus traveled to Artos. Besides, he heard that most of the world's heroes were to be found in this noble land.

Personality

Xanthus is proud and passionate. He's a little high-strung; all horses are, and pegasi are no exception to that rule. But he knows how to keep himself under control to avoid bucking a rider off in the heat of battle -- he's well trained. Xanthus is also highly intelligent despite his inability to speak any languages. He understands a few languages quite perfectly, however, and enjoys listening to whomever his chosen hero may be prattle on about anything he or she might want. Xanthus looks forward to doing battle with evil and doing his part to quash all wickedness.

Goals

Xanthus will only pursue the Fighter class (to 20th level+), mainly due to his inability to really execute abilities of more complex classes. Spellcasting is out of the question, and some of the best elements of the Ranger or Barbarian class are not available to a non-lingual quadruped. Oh well!
