Vidar Jaronger

Description

Barbarian! is what Vidar Jaronger's appearance just screams. The heavy-duty blonde appears to be in his early to mid-20s. He stands tall and proud at 6'2" and over 220 pounds of bulky muscle and broad shoulders. His hair is well groomed, but often astray due to cold winds blowing it up. Vidar sports a beard as well, letting its wisp vanish into the heavy white, gray, and black fox furs and bear pelts that surround his neck and body for warmth. A gray, woolen parka hangs over his dark tunic and heavy leather boots, partly concealing the suit of treated leather armor studded with iron rivets. His voice rings with power and confidence, as if he were a born leader. Vidar's blues are bright with excitement and fervor, no doubt anticipating the next battle. In his left hand, he clutches a concaved steel shield with a single, long spike protruding from the center. Furs drape around that device a well. A traveling pack is slung over his shoulders, carrying most of his gear. The slender shaft of a short bow is tucked behind his backpack. Sheathed at his side is a broad-bladed and lengthy bastard sword that sweeps easily out to hand. The big man looks like a raider and northern brigand, but perhaps Vidar is just the hero of his realm. Looks can be deceiving, so just wait to see which side his blade cuts down first before coming to conclusions, eh?

History

Vidar Jaronger was a citizen of the barbarian capital of Estonen, Mau, since his birth back in 891. His family was a healthy unit, and he had many brothers and sisters. As Vidar matured, his father insured that the boy knew something of swordplay. When Mau came under attack from raiding bands of ogres, minotaurs, gnolls, and worse, Vidar and his brothers were all conscripted into the militia. A proud family of fighters, it wasn't as if the Jarongers would have dodged the opportunity to fight and glorify their names anyway! The battles were fierce and bloody. Many men fell, their spirits no doubt claimed by valkyries and carried back to Ysgard to sit with their god, Hefdreyr. Vidar did not die, and he fought valiantly throughout those battles. Indeed, he felt a bloodcurdling chill of terror run down his spine when he was confronted by those ugly beasts. But instead of fleeing in cowardice, he turned that terror into strength, and unleashed a brutal rage upon his enemies. When the militia drove those monsters back, Mau's king sent his general and the militia to chase those beasts down once and for all. The war shifted to the hills and rocks of Eir Mountain. But it did not go so well this time. The men of Mau were losing as the giants grew desperate in their defense. Even Vidar fell in this battle, and it seemed as if that was the end for this budding hero…

Personality

Vidar is tough, brave, and genuine. He's not a miser or particularly generous. In fact, he's come to the point in his life where all that matters is the sword. He lives for battle, for the adrenaline-pumping sensations of bloodletting. He is a barbarian through and through. And while he is clever enough to pick up extra skills of survival and craftsmanship, Vidar would prefer to surround himself with trophies of his enemies. He despises the concept of peace and the laws necessary to keep it. Life is a battle of survival of the fittest and the wise man that learns this lesson quickest lives the longest -- or at least lives the best. Vidar does not want to die without everyone in the world knowing his name.

Goals

Vidar will only ever pursue and master the barbarian class (20th level+), eager to become a wild-hearted hero of epic proportions.
