Turin Stormwall

Description

So arrives the white knight, Turin Stormwall. However, the shimmer of Turin’s wondrous full plate mail is silvery rather than white. Over the solid breastplate hangs the tabard bearing the royal seal of King Caldarin of Elan. Turin rises tall, almost six feet, and his age is beginning to show. He wanes his 40s, and crow’s feet mark his brown eyes. A knightly mustache adorns his grim expression. Thick boots trod across the ground. A broad triangular shield is slung around his back and a fine long sword is sheathed at his waist. Wisdom and experience demarcate the hero, serenity and resolution. Little may get past the paladin before he discharges his duties.

History

Turin Stormwall was born almost 50 years ago in the town of Entre, Elan. The Stormwalls were a clan of minor nobility that served the local lord in maintaining justice and peace in the region, and their loyalty was always to the crown. He grew up in this aristocratic setting, receiving a proper education and training until he came of age. Then he served at his father’s side and soon proved himself a worthy knight against raiders from the south. Turin’s piety drew the attention of the Temple of Kapponius and the priests approached him with a request for him to undergo their holy initiations. Turin agreed and spent several more years in religious education. He rejoined his father after and continued to serve as knight both to the realm and the temple. For years, Turin fought against bandits, goblins, and minor beasties that plagued the land. He got the king’s attention in his late 20s when he fought in a tourney and jousted his way to victory. King Caldarin invited Turin to join the guard and fight for the crown directly.

Thereafter, Turin lived in Commorancy, the capital of Elan. Over the next 20 years, Turin served admirably in the elite ranks of the royal army. He especially distinguished himself during the Darkling Invasion of the 820s, when goblins, orcs, and worse drove up from Darsix in the south. In the army’s vanguard, Turin helped to drive the monsters back. His valor was especially tested when the drow emerged from Lesgos-Xu and lent ambush aid to the darklings. The wrathful king and his army drove the darklings back at a steep cost, but it was Turin’s counsel that kept Caldarin from overextending the army by mounting an imprudent counter-offensive into Darsix. Turin shared the tale of the heroic and brave but doomed Sir Essex Damboona, the great paladin that believed peace was only possible after war and pushed into Darsix at the ultimate price of failure and death. For Turin’s audacity, Caldarin named the vassal to his royal guard, citing his willingness to protect the crown from all, even a king’s own rashness. They lived as friends for years more, and Turin’s watchful eye kept the royal family safe throughout. Caldarin’s family thrived thanks in part to Turin’s vigilance, and the king’s sons and daughters matured. The knight found himself wishing not for the crown, but only a certain princess.

Personality

Turin Stormwall is, and always has been, a man of honor, integrity, valor, and nobility. He is proud but not foolish, experienced but not wanton, fierce but just. He has always proved himself accountable and courageous and that isn’t likely to ever change, even if he does nurse a secret love for Princess Faerydae.

Goals

Turin would only ever pursue the class of paladin, pursuing it to epic levels (20th-level+).
