Scandrell -- "Krackle"

Description

A mighty lizard of jeweled tourmaline blue slithers into view, a vast wingspan casting shadows on those beneath his notice. Scandrell, known among mortals as Krackle, is over nineteen feet long from the tip of his thick, scaled tail to the bony horn on his snout. The blue dragon must weigh at least 3,000 pounds, and most of it is predatory muscle that ripples beneath flexible yet impenetrable scale armor. A faint gloss shines from its body like glass that baked in the sun, and the crackle of ozone seems to perpetually sizzle around the drake. Nictating eyes blink in front of frilly draconian ears. Jagged teeth threaten a terrible end in the dragon’s gullet, while thick claws designed for digging into the hard earth flex with insatiable lust and love for life and loot.

Scandrell’s human guise proves not much less imposing. The young man walks with stately grace, clad in a midnight-blue robe with black trim and bound by a silk cord. Rings bedeck his spidery fingers and an intelligent glint flashes in brown eyes flecked with yellow-gold. His black hair is swept back and upwards like a ruffled crow’s feathers, and an angular curve of his features adds to the aquiline and aristocratic appearance that he maintains: a strange, young lord indeed.

History

Scandrell turned 88 years old just last year: the youngest surviving hatchling of Shive’s brood. He was of the line of Stormwight, a powerful bull living on the other side of the desert. As soon as he came of age, he left his mother’s den and flew across the desert to find his father. Stormwight had recently been slain, however, and his brother wanted the old drake’s hoard. Scandrell battled his sibling to the death; during the skirmish, a few looters managed to run off with a few goods and treasure piles. Scandrell emerged the victor and soared back to his father’s den, discovering a fraction of Stormwight’s gold remained…but so also did the greatest treasure of all, the human girl. He took her as his property along with the rest. Only one other item surpassed Rhaenvan’s value: a book of spells left behind that helped the dragon apply his natural inclination towards the arcane, and he transformed himself into an expert summoner and soul-binder. The slave-girl watched as Scandrell took up his father’s predilections and mastered them over the years, training himself in potent wizardry while she matured merely as a talented servant: bondage all she ever knew.

Personality

Scandrell is jealous and cruel, but he is also protective and brilliant. The young dragon intends to expand his hoard, but he considers knowledge to be just as vital. And the most powerful knowledge is the kind that controls the will and spirit of others. He is ultimately a tyrant of terrible power and audacity.

Goals

Scandrell will master the wizard class (20th-level) before considering taking sorcerer levels to complement his natural magical talents.
