The Legacy


The Tibanis family had modest beginnings on the planet of Begeren. Generations later, they clawed and schemed and murdered their way to rank among the top aristocratic families of the entire empire. It produced members of the Dark Council and even the Emperor's Wrath, while that role mattered. It attracted allies from across the galaxy, some savory and some not, some vicious and venal while others bound by honor and pride. In all, the Tibanises grew into a true imperial family, with worthy compatriots closely connected to family interest by ties of blood, debt, or credits.

The feud with the Tibanis family began when Nycola Stormfall crossed lightsabers with Jokkasta Tibanis on the planet Gorse during the Cold War. Jokkasta had been dispatched there upon orders from the Dark Council, ostensibly handed down from the Emperor himself. (Thus did the reason for her visit later become deeply suspect, but her pride still stung from the clash with the Jedi.) Jokkasta was under orders to find a doomsday weapon contained on the light side of the planet that reportedly had the ability to shift the planet’s poles in such a way as to permanently plunge the whole into darkness against the shadow of the moon, Cynda. The duel with Nycola was infamous for taking place right on the tidally-locked planet’s equator. The duel lasted long enough to draw multiple allies into the fray and threatened to embroil the local populace (miners mostly) into all-out war. The battle ended in a draw. Under orders from Grand Moff Kilran to abandon conflict on Gorse (as it was strategically imprudent), the Tibanises and their allies retreated to the dark side of the planet. Force concealment aided their getaway, thereby creating the illusion that the darkness itself had swallowed them up.
