Otis Euthe

Description

Now this is a real giant. Otis Euthe dwarfs other sorts of giants at 23'4" and 12,421 pounds. The storm giant's coloration is typical for his breed. Otis' skin is light green while his long, flowing hair and beard are a darker green. His eyes? They're also green, though their bright vibrancy and legendary wisdom make them look like large emeralds. Otis boasts an incredible musculature, quite well-developed for a giant of his size and titanish in design. He appears to be nearing his third decade in maturity, although storm giants age like elves. Otis wears a simple brown tunic of cotton and walks barefoot. But when expecting trouble or traveling, the giant dons plated padding of the finest steel and etched with ancient murals of battles long past. He carries a great sword that seems tinted blue-white and the pommel is mounted by a large opal. A wooden flail with a steel spiny head is wound at his belt and a sack carrying his various belongings is hitched at his back. A flawless diamond ring affixed to a band of white gold is slipped around one finger, while a silver medallion hangs on a chain around his great neck. Its image is half-covered by his unbound beard, but one may catch a glimpse of the lightning bolt symbol of his deity, Thyel. Otis walks the earth or wades through the ocean deeps as if always in deep contemplation. However, he never accidentally steps on someone and nothing seems to impede his movement. Like a storm, this giant's goodly intent cannot be stopped, only weathered or fled.

History

Almost 150 years ago, Otis Euthe became the first and only child of his storm giant parents' marriage. They dwelled on the peak of Eir Mountain in eastern Mautos. There they saw to Otis' upbringing. They made sure the young storm giant learned how to fend for himself, how to survive in the wide world, who to talk to for friendship and who to avoid or attack on sight. They made sure Otis received a good education, coupling common sense and artistic pursuits with more esoteric knowledge. And they insured that Otis respected, revered, and reveled in the elements that gave storm giants their essence and power. They took him out into the most powerful storms and swam in the Skymos Sea with him. Otis became quite enamored with the power of weather and prayed daily for another storm he could enjoy. While his god, Thyel, answered those prayers, not every wish could be fulfilled. Evil crept into the land and threatened the Euthes' mountain home.

Though almost an adult now, his father did not let him help. The older giant left to investigate and never returned. The fully capable mother left to search for the father, and she never came back either. Otis stayed at Eir Mountain until the evil that overcame his parents arrived. A full flight of white dragons descended on the mountain. Otis knew he was no match for these monsters and miserably fled before he suffered his parents' fate. Otis wanted to regroup, recruit allies, and retake the mountain. A vision from Thyel stopped him. He was told he would be needed elsewhere and that his parents would be avenged in time. Long-lived and patient, Otis reluctantly abandoned vengeance before he even started. He dived into the sea and swam where his god directed, arriving in the Sea of Woe. He found a new home with his god's clues -- Starfish Keep, an old underwater fortress of coral and steel built long ago and then forgotten by tritons. The vertically-designed ceilings were perfect for a storm giant. Otis settled into this place and awaited his god's next directions.

Personality

Otis is usually quiet and reserved, keeping his contemplations to himself. If prompted courteously, however, he can be verbose and friendly with the sort of simple charm only divine beings usually possess. Otis is devoted to the reverence and enjoyment of weather and the beauty of the sea. Normally gentle, he does not hesitate striking down evil monsters that cross his path. Otis wonders if Thyel will have him battling krakens in the near future. He'd like to return to Mautos, however, with strong allies, and rout those blasted ice drakes and watch them all be electrocuted. But Otis is wise enough not to disobey his god's will and commit suicide. His tempestuous anger is held that much in check.

Goals

Otis will pursue the cleric class until mastery (20th level+) and probably then take up a Prestige Class such as hierophant.
