Oon'aklarise

Bio

Not all Jedi stories start well. Some start in darkness and misery. Oon’aklarise sung one such tale, for she began life as a Twi’lek slave on Hutt-controlled Sleheyron. She knew only hard work and heartache. The only reward was being allowed to live. And that wasn’t all that pleasant either. As soon as she “grew up” (quite young by civilized standards), she was working where young ladies can work in a place like that. She learned to detach herself, to call herself Oonaklarise, to melt into her own imagination, as if her lekkus were antennas she could merely cut off from the vile reality in which she dwelled. In that detached reality, the violence she endured was violence she turned on the slavers. Little did Oonaklarise know but that her detached fantasies were actually Force-driven visions. She was not merely imagining herself liberating slaves and crushing the cartels and the Empire and all other slavers…she was foretelling her own future.

The Kovalish Pilgrims dared the Hutts’ wrath by visiting this planet and poaching from its slave population. They dared not stay long and only visited one small settlement near the northern mining colonies. It just so happened to be the settlement in which Oonaklarise dwelled. They liberated who they could and fled before security could apprehend them. Once they escaped to the hyperlanes, their last stop happened to be Tython, where no Hutt thug who dared to follow harassed them for long, due to the presence of the Jedi. In this initial touchdown by the Pilgrims, the Jedi diplomatically met with the group though the Republic would deny them refuge. During that meet, Oonaklarise was spotted as a Force-sensitive. The mistrustful teenager was taken under wing of tender Master Genn Steelu. Her Jedi training began.

Pity clouded Master Genn’s view of the young Twi’lek. Her hunger for freedom and eagerness to prove she deserved it masked well her burning hatred and fear of slavers and slavery. That hatred became a general mistrust for all non-Twi’leks after observing the cold shoulder treatment her saviors, the Pilgrims, received for so long. She soon cared little for the fate of anyone; her desire to end slavery not to free the oppressed but to crush the oppressors. She made an admirable instrument in the resurgent war against the Sith Empire. She kept an icily clear head, restricting compassion to those truly in need (especially slaves), and transforming what was once uncontrollable hatred into manageable and righteous contempt.

Her urgency to meet battle with the Sith, as the pinnacle exemplars of oppression in the galaxy, was unmatched…and it did not go unnoticed by the Council. However, her furious and innate dueling ability – as graceful and innate as a primordial dancer – marked her as too valuable to hide on Tython. Under observation not only from Master Satele Shan but her companions in the Stormfall League, Oonaklarise was permitted to continue her tireless crusade of dismantling – no, annihilating – the slave trade and all its purveyors.
