Olera Leyshine

Description

The eyes snare viewers first. Fel-fire green like all blood elves, certainly, but these burn with even greater intensity in color. Elegant and ornate fashion wheels platinum-blond hair up high around canted ears bedecked with jade and emeralds and gold. Her high cheekbones elevate with a cat-ate-the-canary smile that she wears almost always. Of course, Olera Leyshine's close-fitted robes reveal her as a powerful magus, and thus not an elf with which one ought to trifle. The scarlet and gold designs of her finery indicate both elevated heritage and proud sin'dorei allegiance. The slender form of the elven mage graces the area with an electric buzz tingling the atmosphere. Olera is the Thalassian word for a kind of "power" and gravitas, and she exudes it in spades.

History

Olera boasted the legacy of the Leyshine family, pride of Silvermoon City. Her mother gave birth to her just a few hundred years ago. Olera came of age and the family immediately inducted her into the mysteries of the arcane. Their heritage compelled it and her talent demanded it. Before puberty, she already could innately tap magical energies and play with them like toys. Over the years, her respect for the arcane matured and grew immensely, as did her dependence upon it. Olera soon came to grips with her addiction to raw mana energies, as so many of her people did. However, she mastered her cravings independently from the other sin'dorei. She reflected and developed her self-discipline in private quarters in the Falthrien Academy, away from all others. When the Kael'thas exposed his demonic corruption, Olera hurried back to Silvermoon to convene with the other elven mages. They agreed to not only support a new regency but a new brand of magic apart from what the prince encouraged. The sin'dorei, once known for their love of sunfire spells of all stripes, turned their backs on focusing on that magic for a purer arcane style. The fear, of course, was that their sunfire methods themselves either became polluted or induced it.

Olera rejected that unfounded hypothesis. She continued to master that elemental force, harnessing even more powerful versions of it. She honed the sunfire style's effectiveness in battle by traveling to Northrend and bombarding hordes of the Scourge's minions. For years, ghouls and wights were satisfactory targets for experimental arts (and Northrend was far enough away from Silvermoon to avoid notice). When the Legion began to bombard all of Azeroth, she knew her magic would be more useful than ever. If Azeroth was the world they must defend, and the sun provided the source of all life on the planet, then its flames would likewise defend it best. The Burning Legion would burn. The blood elf pushed with the rest of Azeroth’s champions into the heart of the demons’ home world, Argus. In the ruins of Mac’aree, she confronted the eredar who still haunted that place, challenging their greatest sorcerers to duels of arcane might. But her greatest coup over the Legion was when an antaen goliath demon rose to destroy the little elf. Xun’alinnom, Lord of the Lost Star, bore down on Olera. She defeated him not by merely slinging spells at his massive horned face, but rather by obliterating the very ground under his feet. Rubble fell on the antaen, pinning and crushing it, enabling her to finish it off at her lioness-like leisure. Olera became convinced after these encounters that the sin’dorei, not man’ari, were by far the greatest, most talented with magic, and most powerful in general race in the Great Beyond.

Personality

Olera is noble, even conceited. Despite that hubris, she at least possesses a willing and virtuous heart. Her love of magic and the sunfire arts derive not from an infatuation with the arcane, like many mages (and especially blood elves), but a racial pride in their legacy gifts. But whatever her reason for loving magic, her life truly revolves around it in every facet.

The Enemy

She focuses on real villains like the Scourge and Legion. She avoids unnecessary conflict with the foolish Alliance (though if pressed, never backs down). She doesn't consider her fellow elves enemies, of course (though considers the high elves dangerously misled), but does try to keep her affection for the sunfire secret from the Silvermoon council. Enough years have passed since Kael'thas's defeat, but why take risks of censure?
