Nalvo Eldur

Description

Nalvo Eldur: dwarf, warrior, knight, and paladin. This hero has a heart of gold and a magnetic smile that lies almost hidden behind his bushy auburn beard. The well-groomed mane is braided in two and dangles down over the tabard that showcases his noble household. Beneath that shirt glitters the light chain mail he wears. A broad-headed waraxe is gripped in his right hand. Over his left shoulder is slung a sturdy steel shield of triangular shape and padded with leather. Stout legs advance, likewise clad in leather breeches. Fair skin and fairer eyes glow from beneath the helm he wears. A combination of pride and exuberance lends this dwarf an unexpectedly un-dour air. Sir Nalvo may be a dwarf living in a cave, but he towers higher than any mountain.

History

Nalvo Eldur was born the eldest of the Eldur clan leader’s sons in the dwarven underground city of Brightshadows. Being the eldest did not mean much since Nalvo was only 75 -- mid-20s, in human years. But within that relatively short lifetime, this deep dwarf acquired a great deal of experience. The first few decades were spent in dedication support of his loving family. When his younger brother Stalty was waylaid and murdered by roaming goblins, however, Nalvo changed. He found himself faced with a crisis of conscience. Vengeance swam in his senses, threatening to send him spirally down a bleak road. Ale did not help.

But then, an epiphany struck the young man’s life. Cutting through the liquor came a holy vision. He saw himself expending his life not in thoughtless vengeance but courageous sacrifice. Nalvo stood his ground on a singlewide stone bridge across a bottomless chasm. Monsters streamed across, trying to get past, but he kept knocking them down, back, and off the bridge. He focused on the bridge and enemy ahead, for Nalvo felt if he looked down he would suffer vertigo and plummet into the toothy maw of a titanic worm living at the bottom. The vision was terrifying, but also inspiring. Nalvo abandoned the bottle and sought refuge at the temple of Herlidall Bridgecleaver. There the young scion of House Eldur was given an even greater opportunity. He entered the service of the temple, trained and disciplined his mind and steeled his soul. Nalvo took his vows and swore to venture forth into the Stone Forest to protect fellow travelers, as his brother once was.

Personality

Nalvo is, suffice to say, a dwarf of honor and righteousness. But his upbeat personality and optimism shines in the darkness of the Lower Kingdom. He is a man who has confronted his inner demons and now boldly goes forth to confront the demons without. He is afraid of very little, though his original epiphany still haunts him.

Goals

Nalvo will pursue the paladin class until the 10th-level. Then he will take up the dwarven defender prestige class and master it before pursuing a slightly different profession into epic levels, either cleric or fighter.
