Morak Nalo
Description
Though short and stout at 4’4” and 140 pounds, Morak Nalo stands tall with ambition and wit. The young but dour hill dwarf, like all his kind, maintains a carefully groomed beard. The dark-brown hair is tucked into the belt holding his tunic and leggings up. He favors fine garments but in neutral, woodsy colors befitting a prudent peddler. Skin ruddied from work in the sun, bulbous nose common for his race, Morak at first glance appears like any other intrepid dwarf. But his brown eyes dart slyly and his lips twitch into a cunning grin. His jittery behavior contrasts with his smooth baritone. He looks like a man that is always up to something he shouldn’t be, and doesn’t know how to really cover it up. Of course, should anyone’s suspicions cloud their better judgment, Morak carries stern armaments in the form of stiff and studded leather mail and a variety of death-dealing weapons. He’s a clever lad, intractably shrewd and opportunistic. In other words, he’s successful. And what’s so wrong with that?
History
Morak Nalo hailed from Brime, the hill dwarf capitol of Hale. There he was born into a successful merchant family back in 858 AK. Morak enjoyed a prosperous lifestyle until his father was caught swindling funds out of elderly dwarves. The man was also price-gouging his neighbors on fine textiles imported from Elan. Morak’s father was arrested, imprisoned, and the entire Nalo family discredited. This defamation embittered young Morak, so he left home and began to run his own merchant business on the road. Having learned a number of shady tricks of the trade from his father, Morak sought his own wealth and success. He knew through personal advancement his family honor would be restored, even if he had to do so through further dishonorable means.
Personality
Manipulative, selfish, cruel, deceitful, bitter, cynical, and without honor – all of this is Morak. Even his temper is short (ha!). Despite these shortcomings, Morak has determination and cunning. His skills and ambitions will propel him to success, and he knows which mistakes to avoid making along the way.
Goals
Morak will pursue the rogue class to the 15th-level. Then he will take up the prestige class of master thief and master it, too (10th-level).
