Khalid al-Naji
Description
A giant beast of a genie, Khalid al-Naji is filled with an elemental wrath that imposes his 15 foot and 2,800 pound stature wherever he roams. His skin seems diamond-hard and rough-ready, black as basalt from head to toe. And much of his massive body is on display since he wears only a leather loinskin. His musculature so bared seems unnaturally cut, as if he were a mere stone golem. His white eyes lack pupils but not a supernatural light of cunning, marking him as much more than a mere construct. A simple braid of black hair spills out of the back of his otherwise bald head. His mouth is full of bestially sharp teeth while his brow boasts a pair of ivory horns that jut straight forward about six inches. A double-bladed great axe is hoisted onto the dao's shoulder, its keen heads commanding a vague green sheen. Though Khalid is not a golem, he certainly appears to be as solid and unstoppable as one. Yet his exotic voice shakes the earth like thunder and he commands the air of a rare noble: not one born of arrogance, but one born of tests. This darksome dao has experienced more battle than most genies would ever care.
History
Khalid al-Naji had the debatable honor of serving as a mamluk -- warrior-slave -- to the sultan of the Great Dismal Delve in the Elemental Plane of Earth since his birth 1,472 years ago. He was one of many prizes the sultan claimed when his looser tribe of dao was conquered. But Khalid set that unpleasant past aside, having not experienced any of it personally. He followed his ruler's orders and fought many battles and wars against the enemies of the dao, such as slaadi, marida and other genies, and even fiends. He also served as the sultan's personal champion in arenas of combat, for his ferocity was unmatched.
Indeed, the more honor Khalid scored for his sultan, the better he was treated, until he was revered as a noble-born knight. And he came to expect that sort of treatment, exacting pain from whoever treated him as a lesser…unless, of course, it was someone of greater stature, like his sultan. Only after centuries of service and Khalid's growing desire to be free was the sultan compelled to free his champion from enslavement. Khalid expressed his gratitude by remaining on the sultan's staff for another century. Then he left the Dismal Delve at long last. His desire to revel in his freedom included a want to explore the world. Khalid decided to begin with the Material Plane, Cael, and therefore he simply traveled there, arriving near the Scourged Cliffs of Verdentia.
Personality
Khalid is powerful and intimidating, though he shows respect to whoever proves they're more powerful. Regardless, that's a notion of respect and not fear: fear seems to be an alien feeling to this dao. He always follows a brutal code of honor that allows mercy to those weaker than himself, but not if they insult him or his family. That always sets him into an unquenchable rage satisfied only in blood. Otherwise, Khalid comports himself with the aloof dignity of a noble genie that no mortal can approach.
Goals
Khalid is content to master the Barbarian class (20th level+) and more as an epic warrior of furious methodology.
