Jore Quondam
Description
Though not as drop dead ugly as most half-orcs, Jore is clearly not human. The hulking brute dwarfs most half-orcs -- and indeed, most orcs -- in sheer physical presence. He towers at 7'1" and weighs almost 300 pounds, and it's all from defined muscle. This wild man's shaggy black hair is trimmed to hang no lower than his broad shoulders. His eyes, so deeply brown they appear black, glint with natural ferocity and an easily underestimated cleverness. His skin is grayer than normal, further evidence of his orcish blood, and his lower canines jut like tiny tusks. Jore's brow is wider than a man's, too, making him appear like a primitive caveman. His body is clothed in crudely made pantaloons, sandals, and vest. A wool cloak provides extra warmth on chillier days. Pouches are attached to Jore's leather belt; two sickles are hitched at his hips for self-defense. Jore will often also carry a spear or two for hunting…of many things. Jore does not stink of body odor and rotten meat as many half-orcs. Instead, he smells of the wild woods, of herbs and soil and the river.
History
Born of rape and conquest, Jore's mother was a human slave. She eventually died from her horrid treatment at the hands of the Wargish orc tribe of north Darsix. But she didn't die before giving birth to Jore in 888, who was also treated like a slave from youth. The half-orc inherited some of his human side's conflicting but powerful elements of rebellion and wisdom. As he was forced to perform manual labor over the years, Jore also got stronger and stronger. In his late teens, he finally broke the chains of bondage -- literally. He fled over the Sonodell Mountains, then headed west to end up in the southern woodlands of Elan. There he encountered Sterr Roke, a druid master. Sterr almost killed the young half-orc, presuming him to be another rapacious beast. But Jore pleaded for his life. Sterr felt a pang of mercy and took the tormented brute under wing. Jore spent nearly a decade more learning to live as one with the wild. Sterr became proud of his reverent student, who clearly favored his human side over his orcish. A spirit-rite of passage was administered and Jore passed with flying colors. The big and quiet half-orc proved that strength of body and will both made a superior man. Jore and Sterr parted ways, and the half-orc headed back east to carve out a woodland of his own to guard and with which to commune. Jore took the surname of Quondam to distinguish himself from the Wargish and began to try and put the past behind him to live perfectly with the present.
Personality
Though Jore appears brutish and fierce, he is actually quiet and reserved. Far more intelligent than his heritage might let on, Jore prefers to spend his days in thoughtful contemplation. With Sterr's guidance, Jore has great respect for life and a dislike for all those who would encroach nature's domain. With his incredible strength that surpasses the average orc and his druidic skills, Jore is more than a capable enforcer of natural law. But he is careful not to allow his domineering orcish blood cast judgment in place of wisdom. Implacably honest and only as simple as life, Jore is as merciful and unforgiving as nature itself.
Goals
Jore will master the Druid class (20th level) before taking up the Barbarian class and mastering it (to 20th level).
