Jarb Vulkannis
Description
Jarb Vulkannis is unmistakably half-orc. The powerfully built man appears to be about 20 years old, standing over 6 feet tall and weighing 230 pounds or so -- mostly solid muscle. He wears a common traveler's slacks and vest, but that's often concealed beneath well-tanned leather mail. Steel studs are riveted into the armor that is worn like a solid coat around his large, gray-skinned body. Jarb may be half-orc but he isn't as smelly as most, due clearly to a regimented grooming practice he performs. His black hair is trimmed short on his head, though he intentionally sports sideburns. His broad and almost beetled brow is softened with a constant look-out to the world about him. Jarb's black eyes survey the environment carefully and he totes a battleaxe that sports blades on both ends carefully in his thick-fisted grip. This half-orc is prepared for danger, but he doesn't actively seek it out. Strength and honor demands protection, not slaughter.
History
Twenty years ago, Jarb Vulkannis was born into a situation common for many half-orcs. His mother was a human slave to a orcish raider, forced to breed. However, Jarb was lucky. When he was still an infant, human warriors fell upon the orcish encampment in Rhodes Valley of Verdentia and destroyed the villains. His mother was freed and taken into the care of one of the human warrior's family. The man was a ranger helped raise Jarb to adulthood. When Jarb was old enough, with a wise step-father seeing to his proper upbringing, he proved strong and smart enough to learn the ways of the ranger as well. His step-father was particularly adept at hunting and battling giants, and he passed his lore onto the half-orc. Jarb reached adulthood quickly enough, and went abroad with a promise to make his mother and surrogate family proud. He would protect the weak and innocent from the rampages and raids of orcs and giants. What a good candidate Jarb was for this role, too! Strong and fierce, the half-orc knew he had what it would take to fight such powerful foes.
Personality
Unlike most half-orcs, Jarb answers the decent side of his human blood. He is wise as he is strong, and lives according to a doctrine of the wilderness that his step-father presented years ago. That includes protecting the weak, which includes all living things, and it includes cherishing nature, never taking more than he needs. It also means, Jarb realizes, that in his role as a hunter of wicked monsters that he must be willing to put his life on the line. This is a sacrifice the adventurous and good-spirited half-orc makes everyday.
Goals
Jarb intends to master the class of ranger (20th level+) and more as an epic warrior of the wild.
