Ilhuitl

Description

Such sheer beauty can scarcely be imagined to exist in this wild, untamed world. But perhaps it's that very wildness that permits a wonder like Ilhuitl to live. The couatl is a dreamstruck creature of twelve and a half feet of length, with wings that extend to fifteen feet. She probably weighs close to a ton, this dragon-like creature. She lacks legs or arms, but those wings easily dominate her presence. The gossamer feathers of those appendages radiate, reflect, and flicker through all forms of gentle color, reminiscent of rainbows. Her serpentine body is long and slender but supple and graceful. She's sheathed in emerald-green scales that capture sunlight in marvelous, scintillating fashion. Her tail ends with a webbed frill and soft feathers. Her snake-like head possesses fangs and a forked tongue, but any speech is likely to be heard only in listeners' minds. The slit, ophoid gaze seems to command a penetrating infallibility, filled with ancient wisdom and divine sanctity. Such quiet grace and splendor is rare indeed in this world.

But that is her natural shape. Often, Ilhuitl occupies a favorite human disguise. In this form, she appears like a woman native to the Kukul lands. Dark skin and long, gorgeous black hair is permitted to sweep freely about her slender and shapely form. Like most women of the region, the heat compels Ilhuitl to wear nothing more than bikini-like cotton. The flimsy garments exposes much of her golden, flawless skin. Yet it is difficult to look upon her as an object of desire. Her countenance is too powerful, too stern, too aware, as if she were reading the thoughts of those around her, and thereby dissuading those with a sense of shame. At the same time, she does not carry herself with an aggressive posture. A knife is sheathed at her waist, and a slender staff inscribed with runes and carved from willow is clutched in hand, but these come across more like common tools than weapons. Overall, Ilhuitl seems gentle, compassionate, and concerned. She's like an angel walking amongst mortals, seeing to their needs and pains, and helping them be strong for the trials of their lives, and their struggles against evil.

History

Ilhuitl was an ancient couatl, not born in Cael but one of the earliest creatures first dispatched from the heavens to aid the mortals of Kukul. Legends held that she came down from Mount Atl in Southcentral Kukul roughly 1,200 years ago. In those early years, she helped mortal heroes battle the temptations and brutalities of tanar'ri and their monstrous pawns. In fact, the transference from the plane of Olympia to Cael dislodged her memory, and Ilhuitl could recall little of her celestial abode. But it was a trade she willingly made in order to do more good for the good folk of the world. After centuries of bloody conflict, Ilhuitl was glad when the decent people of Kukul prevailed and drove the forces of darkness back. Most of their enemies retreated back to the Abyss, while others cowered in the depths of the wilderness. She became a divine being to whom shrines were set up and offerings of valuables and sweet-smelling incense were given every year. Ilhuitl accepted those offerings graciously, but largely retreated from the lives of mortals so they could make their own life. It was the right thing to do.

Evil, however, was not destroyed, only defeated. Its servitors learned well the mistakes they made by directly assaulting the societies of men. They began a far more subtle campaign and it wasn't until recently that Ilhuitl was disturbed from her aloof exploration of both nature and trying to seize anything of her memory of Heaven. She began to hear rumors that good folk were beginning to fall astray and let tyranny guide their hands, quashing the virtues they should hold upright. Deeply concerned, she once more walked the earth as a human, seeking out the source of this corruption.

Personality

Ilhuitl possesses an air of absolute awareness, confidence, gentleness, wisdom, sagacity, and puissance with which few can contend. She also comes across as a beacon of purity and truth regardless of her form. Though she is in fact quite powerful, Ilhuitl is experienced enough to recognize her limits, and would prefer practical solutions to any confrontations or conflicts. When she must kill, Ilhuitl acknowledges, she does so swiftly and without hesitation. But that's because all the hesitation she needs to consider about slaying something was already decided before that final moment. Ilhuitl will continue to gladly provide the assistance and guidance mortals often need in their struggle against the evil forces within and without. It is her role and it was a sacrifice she made ages ago, and still does not regret.

Goals

Ilhuitl will only follow the sorcerer role, mastering it (20th level+) beyond mortal understanding thanks to the celestial blood in her body.
