Gustavus Joz

Description

Gustavus Joz looks just like what he is: a drunk. The 20something pale-skinned, wild-haired buffoon staggers down the way in nothing but sandals and loose-fitting trousers and vest. The colors of his attire match his eyes and hair as well as the dung he frequently stumbles into: shades of brown and tan. His face appears weathered from exposure and alcohol, and rarely does he look (or sound) particularly coherent. And yet, “Gus” manages to get to and fro and survive (if only subsist). How does he do it?

History

Slavery was made illegal in Verdentia long ago. And yet, it exists, thanks to legal loopholes and a mad king who doesn’t care. Thus, Gustavus Joz watched and suffered the yoke of slavery of both himself and his family when he was still a boy. They came for the Jozs on the rural outskirts of the port city of Andyna because his father fell behind on debts for seed for their farm. He watched the slavers drag his father and mother and sisters away to gods know what fate, and then he too was seized and thrown in chains. For whatever reason, he was given over to a Temple of Nailor in the region. But he was deemed too young to train and instead swept floors and did other menial labor at the shrine. For years, unwittingly, “Gus” proved his obedience and discipline to the elders. Finally, proper monk training began, and he graduated with flying colors from the final tests thanks to a well of high potential and an earnest desire to not only make something of himself, but to perhaps even rescue his family from slavery. When he returned to Andyna, he discovered his parents had been killed while in bondage and one of his sisters had been sold off to some distant brothel in Darsix, of all the hellish places. Miserable, Gus tried a drink and liked it. A lot. Too much.

Personality

Gustavus is first and foremost a drunk. But he’s a drunk that can fight. Really well. He’d like to someday find his sister, but if she’s been sold to a Darsix brothel, he has regular nightmares about what has happened to her, and he isn’t sure he can’t face it. So…he just drinks. Obviously, he needs to man up a bit if he hopes to make that difference he always dreamed of.

Goals

Gustavus will keep to the monk class to and through epic levels (20th-level+).
