Dain Kilgia

Description

This dwarf is clearly a young man with great potential. Dain Kilgia is sturdily built, with powerfully developed muscles and great confidence and dauntless spirit burning in his bright, brown eyes. The stout man has fairer skin than the more common hill dwarf, indicating his mountain variety heritage. Dain wears his thick brown hair short save his beard, which dangles down to his waist. But it is not tucked into the belt, instead plaited into three separate braids, and generally very well groomed. Dain wears a gray tunic and over his torso rests a shirt of protective chain links. Weapons, from a crossbow to a spear and from a dagger to a morningstar, all rest on his body in plain sight. Hanging on his chest is a silver medallion portraying the dual mountain imagery of the god he serves, Donarfel Stormgate. In the spirit of his clerical service, Dain walks the roads of the world, protecting kin of all types, and honoring the legacy of his famous clan.

History

Dain Kilgia was bequeathed to his clan about 75 years ago. He learned from an early age that it was quite an honor to be a Kilgia. One of the most famous dwarves ever hailed from his clan, after all. The clever adventurer and dungeoneer extraordinaire, Kam Kilgia, only a couple hundred years before, hailed from this home city of Stagg. Dain's cousin was Kam Kilgia…the Kam Kilgia! The same Kam Kilgia who is reputed to have disappeared from Cael only because he rose to the heavens as a demigod? Dain was fed on those tales for decades and he came to admire the personage of his much older cousin to such a degree that he hoped to emulate him. Granted, just because Kam was so famous didn't mean all Kilgias were adventuring folk. Most were practical and levelheaded jewelers and metalworkers in Stagg.

So, when Dain failed to abandon his desire to emulate that hero, his family soon gave up hope to apprentice him in their trades. They encouraged him to seek out the temples and find guidance there. And that was just what Dain did, though perhaps not the guidance they hoped for. He was drawn to Donarfel Stormgate’s shrine. The god of travelers, adventurers, and expatriates alike, Dain knew that he could follow Kam's footsteps by following the faith of the Stormgate. And, Dain realized, he could carve out his own niche instead of simply doing what his cousin did. He would have his own adventures! Dain underwent seminary at the Temple of the Forge, becoming a devoted servant of Donarfel. He then exited the mountain realm of Stagg and walked his own path alone at last, whistling merrily as he made his way through Hale and soon all the world.

Personality

Dain has a heroic spirit and disciplined mind, and endeavors to aid some party of like-minded heroes find their way through the world, achieve great deeds, and amass great wealth. Really, he's the perfect addition to any party. He has no complaints about any race, keeping his nationalistic beliefs of mountain dwarves' superiority wisely to himself, and judging each person as an individual as his clerical studies encouraged. Perhaps his greatest flaw is how willing he was to cut off from his clan and go his own way. He may lose other friends in the future because of that, too.

Goals

Dain will pursue the cleric class for at least ten levels before he considers any multi-classing, possibly as dwarven defender despite his ancestor's legacy as a master rogue.
