Cherité Covenhigh

Description

Cherité stuns. It’s the best way to depict this young wizardress, who emanates more power than women her age typically do. Luxurious and long chestnut-brown hair reveals a healthy lifetime of wealthy hygiene. Creamy skin bares no scars or blemishes, and a fit figure indicates that the mage reads her musty old books while exercising. Sleek attire clings to her shapely form, parted at the thighs to facilitate ease of stride. Jewelry bedecks the lovely lady, accented mostly in sheening silver to complement the brunette’s classic beauty. Rubies are the gem of choice, fitted into jeweled shin guards and earrings, but do not reflect the mage’s eyes. Once, perhaps, a soft hazel, Cherité’s eyes glow fiercely blue with her arcane power. Where skin is exposed by her gossamer gown, faint tattoos emblazon into her limbs; not some common tattoos but clearly runic sigils ride her flesh. Cherité has certainly dedicated her life not merely to studying magic, but becoming one with it.

History

Cherité Covenhigh was born 27 years ago as Cherité Ulgar in the city of Andyna, Verdentia. Her family possessed a small farm on the outskirts of this major town. Like many well-to-do families in this country, they even owned slaves to assist with the agriculture and work. Beautiful, young Cherité grew up as many young ladies did in such a scenario: literate, curious, but also contemptuous and abusive. In a word, spoiled. But she also proved brilliant, venturing into the city and spending time at antiquity dealers. She acquainted herself with such curiosities, and soon discovered she possessed the discipline and innate knack to control the arcane truths hidden in such devices, especially those involved in the summoning and containment of otherworldly creatures.

Such talent did not go unnoticed, and the wizardly academy in Mentia (the capital) inducted Cherité as a student in her early teens. From there, she excelled in all studies, focusing well with single-minded determination to achieve excellence. Despite her cold-heartedness, she would attain greatness inevitably. Cherité transferred to Smyth to serve under the archmages there, where she cut her teeth in the notorious “hero town” for years. It taught the young mage that her selfish, go-getter attitude not only served best, but necessarily as a means to survive in the wider world.

Her successes and achievements in Smyth over the next decade earned her an instructional position at the Grand Tower of Magister Merkadier – rather, one of the branch academies in Pearl, Elan. While she hardly commanded any tenure or real power, she knew this served as her chance to carve out her own niche in this world. Cherité changed her surname to Covenhigh to reflect her supposed commitment to the Vatic Confederacy, but secretly nursed ambitions far more dangerous.

Personality

Cherité exacts a compelling and shrewd personality. She can be cruel, malicious, and even vindictive. And yet, she carries herself always with elegance and a sense of the classical. Yet, her mind discovers original thoughts and her tongue speaks socratic wisdom to her earnest students. Cherité may be wicked, but she also stands with indispensable verve and brilliance.

Goals

Cherité likely will cross into the cleric class at some point to heighten her comprehension of the planes beyond. Then, upon significant mastery of that unholy path, she will likely pursue the mystic theurge or even thaumaturge prestige class.
