Charmaine Coraheim -- "Shadowhood"

Description

Charmaine Coraheim is a compact little creature with a perpetually crafty expression on her small, devilishly sweet face. This deep halfling negates the assumption that those that dwell in the Underdark are bound to be pale-skinned, for her flesh is naturally darker, a beige or light-brown tan in tone. The woman doesn't even cap two and a half feet in height, weighing little more than thirty pounds. Her skin is unblemished and her personals well cared for; she clearly has a delight for jewels of copper, brass, and bronze, and wears earrings and bracelets of those metals galore. All the same, she scarcely jingles at all, her soft-cushioned halfling feet making no noise as she pads through the rocky depths of the earth. Charmaine's tunic consists of uniform strips of gray and black, which assists the silver medallion about her neck in the designation of her occupation: a faithful servant of the nefarious god, Kamatan! Charmaine is also known as Shadowhood, however, due to her tendency to draw the hood of a black cloak well over her pixie-bobbing sandy-blonde hair when she creeps so the bright color of her hair and the brassy-gold hues of her eyes don't give her away in the dark. When expecting her sneakiness to not avail her wholly, of course, Charmaine will adopt thick but flexible leather armor and tote a solid spear.

History

Roughly thirty years ago, Charmaine was introduced to the Coraheim Clan of the Trihoff Underrealm, an underworld community of mining deep halflings. Trihoff was located beneath the Southern Broken Peaks of Hale. The folk there kept themselves safe from Underdark threats like drow and duergar through their friendships with decent folk, like deep dwarves and svirfneblin. So, Charmaine's growth wasn't stunted by any shocks or horrors. Well, that wasn't exactly true, because even from an early start Charmaine had a penchant for mischief even above and beyond the average halfling. This didn't sit well with the Coraheim family, or most deep halflings, who were a stouter and more practical lot. She wandered off quite often and witnessed some of the more frightening features of the underworld, like a bloody clash between kuo-toa and svirfneblin when those disgusting aquatic freaks ambushed a gnomish funeral party. Charmaine helped from hiding, flinging sling stones, and the gnomes were victorious (though her help was negligible).

Similar events involving drow, gray dwarves, giant spiders, and worse hooked Charmaine's mischievous curiosity for life. She spent her time in Trihoff not looking for a decent husband but studying all the books and religious tomes that she could get her hands on. She remembered the childhood tales of Kamatan and wanted to follow in his footsteps. In a few years, Charmaine became something of a self-taught cleric, except clearly the god of adventure favored her efforts, for one simply cannot heal. Her faith to Kamatan and hoping to emulate him was very diligent all the same and insured her life would be spectacular, if possibly very short.

Personality

Charmaine is truly a free spirit. She rebounds from every mishap with just as much excitement and eager mischief as ever. A bundle of energy, it seems impossible to quench her spark of passion and laughter for long. To her, life is too short to spend mining or farming or making babies. She'd much rather adventure and have fun and obtain the glory and infamy that her god, Kamatan, once (and probably still) enjoyed.

Goals

Charmaine will pursue the cleric class for as long as feels like before multi-classing, likely as a rogue, though her energy and curiosity in life might make her an admirable bard. (She'd just have to develop some musical talent. Currently, she's tone-deaf.)
