Calypso Arete
Description
This drop dead human beauty is tall and willowy and possesses all the attributes one might associate with offspring of a goddess. But she's no demigod, she's simply a devoted servant of Maio, and this is evident in the light-blue colors of her split traveling robes and the wooden medallion of the goddess of love dangling about her neck. The disk vanishes into the slit of her robe where tanned flesh and ample cleavage are partially exposed. Long, smooth legs peek through the robes, equally bronzed from time in the sun. With her long, auburn tresses and the sparkling sea-blue depths of her eyes, Calypso is certainly a sight to behold. Her rosy lips are perpetually curved into a light smile and her gaze dreamily peers beyond, searching for deeper truths to the wilderness she surveys. The woman totes a bronze scepter fitted with a sturdy crystal at her side; its attractive décor is matched by its utility in battle. Romance, happiness, and compassion follow this servant of Maio wherever she goes, taunting the self-hating and rewarding those worthy of the blessings of Calypso Arete.
History
The port of Pearl, Elan, is home to many wondrous sites and people. Calypso Arete knew she was blessed to have been raised alongside such good-spirited neighbors, for that was where she was born 25 years hence. She spent her entire early life in this city, groomed by her wealthy family for eventually marrying off to join one merchant guild to another. However, Pearl's laws permitted her to disobey her parents and refuse to marry someone she did not want. Despite the pressure they tried to put on the girl, she was just too spoiled and stubborn. Perhaps as exasperated punishment, her parents used what last resort powers the law provided over their daughter, and sent her to the United Temples of Light, an organization that joined several different temples of good gods. They hoped she'd learn her lesson in a nunnery, but the clergy accepted pupils and guided them in the direction their talents and inner wisdom directed. Calypso was a diamond-in-the-rough that Maio called to, and she was taken into that temple.
Over the next several years, Calypso was forced to face the facts of life through common labor combined with erstwhile religious studies and classes dedicated to poetry and the spirituality of true love. In time, she did not disappoint her leaders, and became a true believer of romance and real love, not just temporal fancy. The young woman was now an adult and worthy of respect. She still had to earn that respect, and so she was dispatched as a diplomatic envoy of peace and compassion to the western coast of Hale to meet with coastal peoples that dwelled in the shadows of stiff-necked dwarf mountains. She accompanied an elven cleric of Dreyma, a beautiful creature named Eneyla. Unfortunately, a terrible storm struck their ship, and they were set far off course. The captain was washed overboard and the rest of the crew did their best just to find land. They were just far from Hale. Indeed, Calypso and Eneyla found themselves in the foreign world of Kukul. Here, starting in the Plateau of Xochipilli, perhaps they could carry out a similar diplomatic mission after all.
Personality
Calypso is a warm and endearing woman whose silver tongue and breathtaking beauty set others at ease. She's well aware of how dangerous and primitive the world outside of Pearl could be despite having experienced it very little in her past. She knows she may have to defend herself with lethal force and is mentally prepared for that reality. But she would far prefer to make friends, allies, and perhaps one day -- if she's lucky enough to have Maio bestow such a blessing -- find true love. Calypso is strong-willed and clever enough to try and turn a bad situation to her advantage with as little bloodshed as possible, and her charms can work where her intellect may fail.
Goals
Calypso will be fine with pushing the cleric class to mastery (20th level) and then she may take up a Prestige Class, likely the hierophant.
