Ascalon
Description
At first glance, Ascalon appears quite human, and he mostly is. The tiefling boasts a ruddy sailor's complexion but charming manners and a bold veneer make him quite a catch. This pirate favors light, earthy-toned breeches, boots, and tunic. Leather typically protects his torso. Ascalon's brown hair is allowed to grow a touch long in front for boyish bangs. They conceal the tiny ivory horns on his brow all the better. His baby-brown eyes reveal none of his fiendish heritage, fortunately -- only a bright love of life and adventure. A rapier and short sword readily find their ways to grasp, for Ascalon is prepared to take whatever he wants.
History
Greene became anything but when Rendel came to town decades ago. The son of an erinyes, so it was said, this cambion devil was an autocratic conqueror. After he took over the township, he ran its populace into the ground with his dark powers and unbeatable fighting talents. Once undisputed, Rendel took a wife: the loveliest maiden in town, naturally. Their son was named Ascalon and he was spoiled with all the fineries that his father commandeered from this prosperous Darsix port. Despite that, Ascalon found his villainous father far too strict, expectant, and demanding. So he took to sailing as an escape, for plenty of merchant captains and fishermen plied the harbors. Ascalon stayed fairly honested in this pursuit. Then a pirate ship called "The Wretched" attacked and ransacked Greene! Furious, Rendel wanted to obliterate these brazen buccaneers. Ascalon promised to take care of it and tracked "The Wretched" across the coast of Darsix. But instead of attacking them as the tiefling promised his father, he betrayed the cambion and joined the crew! Over the next few years, Ascalon proved his value to "The Wretched" and rose as high as second mate. He survived many escapades at sea and at port. He witnessed many unusual sea creatures and knew he never "saw it all". Fundamentally, Ascalon wanted to build his skills, wealth, and power so he could prove to his father who was the mightier. But a terrible storm combined with a ferocious battle with an Artosian war galley wrecked "The Wretched". Ascalon found himself stranded on a deserted island somewhere in the Devios Ocean.
Personality
Ascalon is every bit as cunning, fierce, rapacious, and selfish as his father. But he lacks his father's axiomatic "virtues" -- the cambion's dictatorial ways. Instead, perhaps due to his human blood rebelling against his baatezu heritage, Ascalon is wild-spirited, rakish, and broadly talented. Indeed, his gallant and swashbuckling lifestyle may be his main redeeming quality.
Goals
Ascalon will eventually multi-class as a Rogue/Fighter for the improved combat skills. Both classes he will pursue as long as he can. Shrewd as he is, he may also dabble eventually in the arcane arts, or perhaps just tap his supernatural heritage for sorcery.
