Arien Eda

Description

A pretty and youthful face is often hidden in the cowl of a brown weatherworn traveling cloak. A knobby and crooked walking stick of firm oak is carried in a lightly tanned hand. Wisps of sandy-blonde hair peek out around the feminine figure's neck. She's too tall for the average elf and her gait is more the confident and aggressive stroll of a human woman. With the hood of her cloak is swept back, piercing blue eyes and pink lips easily turned to a smile or frown and back again are revealed. Arien Eda keeps her blonde hair at a length just past her shoulders, but it's often wild and uncontrolled. The wind and dust of the open road make small vanities much more difficult. The collar of her protective gear also becomes evident, and the tiny iron rivets latched into the leather make the style clear. Besides a traveling pack of general gear, Arien seems largely simple and defenseless. But the wooden symbol of Farahur hangs from around her neck in open view. Her relationship with this strange deity is not obvious, but perhaps she is not to be taken so lightly.

History

Arien Eda was born in the capitol of Elan, Commorancy, in 886. Her family was well-to-do merchants in a city renowned for its mercantilism. She was raised with high education and high hopes to be married off to another merchant family and help secure the bonds for a new guild. Unfortunately, tragedy struck. On a road trip, bandits fell upon the Eda family. Their men-at-arms were slain. Arien's father was murdered. She and her mother were hauled off and…tormented. She watched her mother die before managing to wiggle away from her captor and flee into the woods. Though the bandits gave chase, they ran into a wall of arrows courtesy of wood elves. Arien was healed but sent packing by the neutral-minded folk, and she stumbled back to Commorancy. She was orphaned to a monastery, where she studied the religions of the world. That was when she had an epiphany, and dedicated herself to the faith of Farahur. She devoted herself to a life of protecting travelers, so what befell her family would not happen again under her watch. Leaving her home city alone for the first time, Arien traveled south to one of Elan's larger cities: Timber. She intended to watch that busy road and tend to way station shrines of her god henceforth.

Personality

Arien is quiet and reserved. Her compassion is offered only to those in her charge; she's simply withdrawn from society enough that she can consciously limit her ethics to serve her god's neutral wishes properly. The young cleric will assist any creatures in the midst of travel regardless of alignment, and often without charge. But she will not tolerate abuse of her hospitality, and intends to grow in power so she can punish those who would take unwelcome advantage of her protecting presence.

Goals

Arien will pursue her Cleric class to the mastery of 20th level, and thereafter she may pursue a prestige class like Horizon Walker.
